Deep tunnel storm water system, terminal pumping station and sea outfall project, UAE

The Deep Tunnel Stormwater System (DTSWS) DS-233 was designed to collect groundwater and stormwater runoff from the DWC area, the Expo 2020 site and adjacent communities, and convey the collected flows to the sea.The project included deep transfer tunnels, construction and drop shafts, a pipeline network, a terminal pumping station, a detention tank and lifting station, and a marine outfall pipeline.
Geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring were carried out during construction, with the study focusing on the assessment of inclinometer measurements at monitoring locations INC-04 and INC-08. An eleven-day site visit was undertaken in April 2019 to review the monitoring methodology and measurement procedures.
The study included the development of a detailed error-correction and data-filtering procedure for inclinometer measurements, enabling the identification and removal of readings that did not represent actual ground or structural movements and supporting the reliable assessment of deformation throughout construction.
