Study of protection against rock falls in part of the National Road of Arahova – Delphi, in the area of the Archaeological Site of Delphi

The study focused on investigating the causes and mechanisms of slope instability and rockfall events, and on providing the necessary geological, engineering geological and hydrogeological data to support the selection of appropriate stabilisation and protection measures, as well as the final design and sizing of the required works.
The scope included detailed geological mapping and documentation of the geological formations within the area of interest, together with an assessment of the geological, tectonic and neotectonic conditions and their influence on slope stability and the proposed engineering works. The hydrogeological conditions were also investigated, with particular emphasis on the role of groundwater and surface water in contributing to the occurrence of instability phenomena.
The study further included the assessment of the engineering geological characteristics of the geological formations and the development of recommendations for the effective management of the anticipated problems, the remediation of the rockfall areas and the protection of the area downstream of the slope.
