Detailed design of “Durres – Tirana” railway line and the financial/economic appraisal of the whole Albanian railway network

The geotechnical study focused on the optimisation of the alignment at four problematic sections of the existing Durrës–Tirana railway line, identified during the site investigation. The sections, where ground settlements had been observed, were located between km 4+200 and km 4+700, km 13+000 and km 13+650, km 16+200 and km 16+950, and km 28+200 and km 29+100.

The study also addressed the reconstruction of the railway embankment at the interchange area between Components A and C.

In addition, a detailed geotechnical assessment was carried out at km 16+540, at the location of borehole BHA-5, where a large culvert was planned to be constructed using piled foundations. The assessment provided the necessary geotechnical information to support the design and construction of the proposed works.
